FEB-FAST

I am not doing it myself this year, due to the fact I will have a newborn a two year old Mac to deal with in the next couple of weeks and I might just feel like a glass of wine sometimes...but we'd like to encourage you to give up the grog for feb and if you're really keen you can even raise some money for a worthy cause during Feb fast. It's a short month, the health and waistline benefits are enormous, even if you don't bother getting sponsered, it's still a good idea.

6 WEEKS TO SLIM

Read the article! And I am happy to report that Liz didn't just get the kilos off for the article - she is still training with us and enjoying it!

LIZ DOES IT IN STYLE

The Feb issue of In Style magazine is out now and Mac and one of our clients, Liz features on page 142 & 143 of the magazine. Congratulations Liz, she worked really hard and lost over 6kgs in 6 weeks and dropped heaps of cms. Would you like to get slim in 6 weeks too? Download a copy of her diet here and and plan to train 6 x a week as well as walk to work (or the dog) everyday.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

To kick off the new year we are offering no join fee and no min term memberships so if you know someone who is thinking of giving the gym a try this year please bring them along for a free visit to see what they think.

POWERLIFTING

We had a great powerlifting competition last Sat with a lot people getting personal bests. Clint, who trains up at Hiscoes really blew us all away with his power as did Ellie with her hefty 120kg deadlift! Mac also deserves an honorable mention with a smashing squat of 16okg. Well done every one who participated and if you want to see all the results join our facebook group.

"NO"vember is here again!

We encourage our members to have a month off the treats in November and say "NO" to excess fat, sugar and alcohol as much as possible. This way you can start off the festive season a little bit ahead. Download our NOVEMBER EATING PLAN. The basic premise is to keep to low GI carbs and protein for your meals and to make sure you eat throughout each day rather than one or two meals. And drink lots of water - and only water! If you happen to be one of those lucky fellows who would rather put ON weight email me and I'll give you a plan for that too. AND if you're vegetarian you better contact me too, cause we need to add a few more things to the list for you. GOOD LUCK!

MyGym @ Hiscoes Official Launch Party

To celebrate making it to Crown St (and not having far to go to work...) we having some drinks this Friday night (Sept 29) from 5-9pm in our new space upstairs at Hiscoes, 525 Crown St. Come by and check it out - Mac is kicking off his weekend of birthday celebrations as well so what better reason to come and have a few drinks on us!

NEW SURRY HILLS LOCATION!

We are pleased to be teaming up with Mac's mum and taking some small group training sessions at Hiscoes in Surry Hills. We have a specially dedicated space for training upstairs adjacent to the aerobics room. Sessions are kicking off officially on Monday September 12 and Kai and Maria will both be joining us to lead the training sessions.

TRX training

As you may have noticed on the timetable Lynsey is teaching a couple of TRX classes in the mornings. If you haven't heard of TRX training yet you soon will. Here is a link to the TRX training centre in San Francisco so you can see it in action. It's all about tightening your core while doing everything else you're used to in a workout. If you are interested in trying a session but you can't make the morning classes let us know and we can do a few trial sessions in the evening. And if you're wondering how you'll feel after a session, I quote Tim, "I never thought a couple of straps could kick my arse so much!"

Olympics results are in:

Tony just made it past M to sneak in and win the push-up/plank competition, but M made it to just beat Mac by half a rep in the squats. Kai killed it in the chin-ups and Mac was strokes ahead of everyone in the 2km row. It was a great day all round and My Gym was of course the winner!

Trainer Olympics!

Everyone is invited to join Mac and Lynsey in some feats of strength this weekend Sat 18 June at 10.30am. The events are: a 2km row, 50% body weight bench, body weight squats and some kind of "ab"stacle course.

My Gym's new BLOG

Yes we've decided that we have more to say than we can fit in a few lines here, (Well at least Mac definitely does!) so we've started a little BLOG. I am aiming to put some of my delicious and healthy recipes up there and Mac will do general Mac stuff but try to keep it loosely contained to the topic of health and fitness. We'll try and comment about the questions we get asked most. Check us out.

We're back and we're FAT!

We attended a great fitness convention in San Francisco called IHRSA and we are back and feeling very motivated after pretty much eating and drinking non-stop for two weeks. And to shed those extra few kilos we put on we are launching our 30 day diet - you can follow us on facebook and see how we go.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY US!

We are looking forward to seeing everyone trickle back in to the gym over the next week or two and also wanted to say thanks to everyone for making it such a nice place to work and workout over the last two years! Yes that's right 2 years today (Jan 5th). So here's to a great 2011!

Christmas Cheer

Thanks to everyone who cam to the Christmas drinks at the Alexandria Hotel last Sunday. It's always nice to see everyone in their civvies for a change instead of the normal sweaty gym gear. And if you liked the vibe and the tunes, keep on going as Future Classic have made it their home for Sunday afternoons, Louis, mac and I will certainly be making a few appearances...

AND Just to note: we will be closed from 24th December to Mon January 3rd inclusive. Re-opening Lunchtime Tues Jan 4. (Sorry but I am just not 100% I am going to be able to wake Mac up for that Tues morning so I thought we'd better err on the side of caution and open at 12.30pm)

NEWEST MYGYM member!

Little Samuel was born on Sunday Dec 5th. He is very cute and Kate is doing very well. We hope he can make it in to the gym soon to meet you all. We also hope to have Kate back at work in no time - perhaps championing some post-natal/mum's and bubs sessions!

Thai Kick Boxing

So after a week of relaxing and training Mac, Lynsey and Louis are back and ready to go again. We trained at Promthep Muaythai Camp in Phuket and can highly recommend it. A couple of members even suggested a MY GYM training tour next year - not a bad idea - think about it!

NOvember

Are you ready to do it again? Hopefully cut a cm here or there? I'd love to, so here it is - the rules and the diet for NOvember 2010. Do your best to say "no" to sugar, fat and alcohol this month. We are human, we suggest having one day off a week. Come into the gym this Friday October 29th for a weigh-in at about 5.30pm. Even if you can't make it, just try and put on your skinny jeans and see how they feel, then wait till the end of the month to try again. DOWNLOAD noVEMBER EATING PLAN

Mac's Media Domination continues...

If you happen to be reading the November issue of In Style magazine, make sure you check out page 204, where Mac gives a bit of an overview of the latest fitness gadgets. Or have a read here Go Go Gadget

5-DAY DIET

Now we don't normally advise crash dieting - you really need to be generally healthy most of the time and limit your treats. BUT if you are looking for something to give you a kick-start and get you back into some better habits maybe you'd like to try Lynsey's five-day diet.

POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONS

We had a great powerlifting competition in July with everyone lifting personal bests AND more girls entering than guys - go ladies!

MAC my day...

Did anyone see Mac in the Saturday Telegraph Weekend lift-out section? I think you might have guessed that his account of his weekend wasn't entirely true! Bacon and egg rolls loosely translated into an omelette with one egg yolk - yeah right! But what do you train for if you can't have a few treats here and there right?

Zumba and MY GYM the next big thing in fitness!

We featured on Channel Nine's A Current Affair - if you didn't catch the story you can find it here on the ACA website - check out YOUR GYM on TV

The importance of being a little bit shit...

Is it ever better to be not quite that good at something? Find out Mac's take on this and the FIFA World Cup and how any of this is related to exercising in the latest MY GYM newsletter.

MY GYM on Facebook

So we (Mac) have finally got our act together and can be found on facebook. Come join us!

Train the Trainer

This weekend our clients get to get their own back! SATURDAY MAY 8 at 10.30AM. Come on in to the gym to see the trainers in action - getting drilled by MY GYM members.

Easter Holiday!

We will just be closed Good Friday and Easter Monday and have training sessions as usual on the Saturday. Don't beat yourself up if you indulge in a few Easter Eggs (me I'm partial to the hot cross buns). We can all work them off together after. If you have heard about our train the trainer day and are wondering if you might get a chance to punish Mac and Kate - you just need to get a friend to join the gym or buy a ten pass and to get your hands on a torture card. I know people have some nasty ideas already so I'm looking forward to it!

New Additions to the My Gym family

Kate has been a great help to us since Lynsey has had to take a back seat, we hear that she is a bit relentless at times - but we know you guys love it. If you are interested in finding out a bit more about her personal training philosophy and how she ended up in the fitness industry check her profile on our trainer page. We have also welcomed little Louis Kipling Redinbaugh, who arrived on January 29th, 3.6kgs and with a good head of hair. He has already put on half a kilo and has been dubbed by the nurse a thriving and alert baby. (Not bragging about him already no...) He even has is own little my gym jumpsuit already! Pictures of both the new additions coming soon.

Merry Christmas!

We would like to congratulate all our members and My Gym regulars for their efforts this year and thank you for making our gym such a great place to train! We had a few (well more than a few for some) drinks to celebrate the start of the festive season earlier in December. We are  having a few days off over Christmas and New Year and running a few sessions in between - check our Festive Season Timetable for details. We hope everyone enjoys themselves and gets a bit of time off work to celebrate and we look forward to seeing you in the new year for some serious hard work!

DECadent decEMBER

Now that NOvember is over, we are sure you are looking forward to putting a few more things back on your shopping list. Hopefully you have discovered a couple of new healthy habits that you can maintain.  Now that you have started eating breakfast, drinking lots of water and having healthy snacks throughout the day - don't stop! Here is a more extensive list of foods that you can aim to eat mainly from. Keep protein and low GI carbs as the main ingredients on your plate but you can add a little dairy or some medium GI carbs to keep things interesting.

HEALTHY (and yet tasty) RECIPE

For those of you who have been joining us on our "NO"vember health kick, the lovely Gemma has come up with a delicious recipe that fits in with the guidelines:

Red lentil risotto

Onion
Garlic: to taste
Ginger: to taste
Chilli: to taste
Cumin seeds: tablespoon
1 cup rent lentils
I litre vege stock
Few handfuls of baby spinach
Fresh Lime
Diced lamb

Fry onion and spices in some olive oil then stir in red lentils and cook for one minute.
Cook as you would risotto by adding a ladel if stock till all liquid absorbed/lentils cooked (about 20 mins)

When risotto almost ready, cook lamb in grill pan add to risotto. Add spinach and stir till wilted.

Serve with fresh lime juice and when we are allowed Feta
J

A bit cheeky - but as this week is the last official week - next week you will be allowed feta. We will keep you posted. This week if you are getting a bit bored, you can include some basmati rice with lunch or dinner and some oranges and kiwi fruit for breakfast or your morning snack.

LOCAL FLAVOUR

Next time you're out for a spot of coffee in the neighborhood, stop by Bitton Cafe in Erskineville. The folks over at Bitton have kindly featured us in their quarterly newsletter. Check out our plug and pick up some festive season food ideas.

ANYONE FOR A SPOT OF FISHING?

Which muscles do you need to strengthen to haul in your next catch? I know what you're thinking - I too thought the only muscle fishermen really needed to work was the beer muscle... It appears however, that hooking a big fish actually requires a bit of effort. Mac was invited to go out with the boys from Australia's Modern Fishing Magazine to see how far his gym muscles would take him out on the open water. Find out whether he managed to catch anything and what kind of training program he designed in the following article:

Drop and Catch Me 20!

NOVEMBER:

Or should we say "NO"vember? We are encouraging our members to join us for "NO"vember, where we say "no" to sugar, fat and alcohol - at least for the most part. In an effort to get rid of a bit of excess fat and generally be healthy and maintain consistent energy levels throughout the day, Mac and Lynsey and some of the gang down at the gym are taking this month to really focus on nutrition. We have devised a pretty strict eating plan for the month (but you we do allow one day off a week - cause we are nice like that) which you can download here if you would like to join us.

NOvember eating plan

Now is a good time of year to do this - before all the parties start. You might see stuff in the media about how to get through the party season while maintaining your fitness and health regimen... But REALLY it's the festive season - be festive! My advice is lose a couple of kilos now so you have some to spare, have fun at the parties, lunches, drinks etc but be good on the days in between. And maybe you could think about the low carb beer and champagne - it's actually not that bad.
