POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONS
We had a great powerlifting competition in July with everyone lifting personal bests AND more girls entering than guys - go ladies!
MAC my day...
Did anyone see Mac in the Saturday Telegraph Weekend lift-out section? I think you might have guessed that his account of his weekend wasn't entirely true! Bacon and egg rolls loosely translated into an omelette with one egg yolk - yeah right! But what do you train for if you can't have a few treats here and there right?
Zumba and MY GYM the next big thing in fitness!
We featured on Channel Nine's A Current Affair - if you didn't catch the story you can find it here on the ACA website - check out YOUR GYM on TV
The importance of being a little bit shit...
Is it ever better to be not quite that good at something? Find out Mac's take on this and the FIFA World Cup and how any of this is related to exercising in the latest MY GYM newsletter.
MY GYM on Facebook
So we (Mac) have finally got our act together and can be found on facebook. Come join us!
Train the Trainer
This weekend our clients get to get their own back! SATURDAY MAY 8 at 10.30AM. Come on in to the gym to see the trainers in action - getting drilled by MY GYM members.
Easter Holiday!
We will just be closed Good Friday and Easter Monday and have training sessions as usual on the Saturday. Don't beat yourself up if you indulge in a few Easter Eggs (me I'm partial to the hot cross buns). We can all work them off together after. If you have heard about our train the trainer day and are wondering if you might get a chance to punish Mac and Kate - you just need to get a friend to join the gym or buy a ten pass and to get your hands on a torture card. I know people have some nasty ideas already so I'm looking forward to it!
New Additions to the My Gym family
Kate has been a great help to us since Lynsey has had to take a back seat, we hear that she is a bit relentless at times - but we know you guys love it. If you are interested in finding out a bit more about her personal training philosophy and how she ended up in the fitness industry check her profile on our trainer page. We have also welcomed little Louis Kipling Redinbaugh, who arrived on January 29th, 3.6kgs and with a good head of hair. He has already put on half a kilo and has been dubbed by the nurse a thriving and alert baby. (Not bragging about him already no...) He even has is own little my gym jumpsuit already! Pictures of both the new additions coming soon.
Merry Christmas!
We would like to congratulate all our members and My Gym regulars for their efforts this year and thank you for making our gym such a great place to train! We had a few (well more than a few for some) drinks to celebrate the start of the festive season earlier in December. We are having a few days off over Christmas and New Year and running a few sessions in between - check our Festive Season Timetable for details. We hope everyone enjoys themselves and gets a bit of time off work to celebrate and we look forward to seeing you in the new year for some serious hard work!
DECadent decEMBER
Now that NOvember is over, we are sure you are looking forward to putting a few more things back on your shopping list. Hopefully you have discovered a couple of new healthy habits that you can maintain. Now that you have started eating breakfast, drinking lots of water and having healthy snacks throughout the day - don't stop! Here is a more extensive list of foods that you can aim to eat mainly from. Keep protein and low GI carbs as the main ingredients on your plate but you can add a little dairy or some medium GI carbs to keep things interesting.
HEALTHY (and yet tasty) RECIPE
For those of you who have been joining us on our "NO"vember health kick, the lovely Gemma has come up with a delicious recipe that fits in with the guidelines:
Red lentil risotto
Onion
Garlic: to taste
Ginger: to taste
Chilli: to taste
Cumin seeds: tablespoon
1 cup rent lentils
I litre vege stock
Few handfuls of baby spinach
Fresh Lime
Diced lamb
Fry onion and spices in some olive oil then stir in red lentils and cook for one minute.
Cook as you would risotto by adding a ladel if stock till all liquid absorbed/lentils cooked (about 20 mins)
When risotto almost ready, cook lamb in grill pan add to risotto. Add spinach and stir till wilted.
Serve with fresh lime juice and when we are allowed Feta J
A bit cheeky - but as this week is the last official week - next week you will be allowed feta. We will keep you posted. This week if you are getting a bit bored, you can include some basmati rice with lunch or dinner and some oranges and kiwi fruit for breakfast or your morning snack.
LOCAL FLAVOUR
Next time you're out for a spot of coffee in the neighborhood, stop by Bitton Cafe in Erskineville. The folks over at Bitton have kindly featured us in their quarterly newsletter. Check out our plug and pick up some festive season food ideas.
ANYONE FOR A SPOT OF FISHING?
Which muscles do you need to strengthen to haul in your next catch? I know what you're thinking - I too thought the only muscle fishermen really needed to work was the beer muscle... It appears however, that hooking a big fish actually requires a bit of effort. Mac was invited to go out with the boys from Australia's Modern Fishing Magazine to see how far his gym muscles would take him out on the open water. Find out whether he managed to catch anything and what kind of training program he designed in the following article:
NOVEMBER:
Or should we say "NO"vember? We are encouraging our members to join us for "NO"vember, where we say "no" to sugar, fat and alcohol - at least for the most part. In an effort to get rid of a bit of excess fat and generally be healthy and maintain consistent energy levels throughout the day, Mac and Lynsey and some of the gang down at the gym are taking this month to really focus on nutrition. We have devised a pretty strict eating plan for the month (but you we do allow one day off a week - cause we are nice like that) which you can download here if you would like to join us.
Now is a good time of year to do this - before all the parties start. You might see stuff in the media about how to get through the party season while maintaining your fitness and health regimen... But REALLY it's the festive season - be festive! My advice is lose a couple of kilos now so you have some to spare, have fun at the parties, lunches, drinks etc but be good on the days in between. And maybe you could think about the low carb beer and champagne - it's actually not that bad.
