Lynsey is the beauty and the brains of the operation. She has worked as a boxing coach and fitness consultant since 2004 in a few gyms in Sydney but predominantly Boxing Works, the city’s biggest boxing gym. Lynsey thinks the key to fitness is variety. Mix it up and you’ll get the best results. She completed certification as a Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer at the FIA and is registered with Fitness Australia. Lynsey had baby Louis in early 2010 - got back in shape and is now on the way to having another - but still training! Lynsey says: "If you’d asked me 10 years ago whether I could see myself working as a trainer I would’ve laughed. Don’t get me wrong – I’m no stranger to the industry, my mum was an aerobics instructor so I started jumping around in tights as a little girl. But I was edging up to 75kg at one stage and I used to drink most days and smoke as well. And do you know what if you’d asked me if I felt well and happy I would’ve said yeah I feel great. Now at just under 60kg I feel so much BETTER! I have heaps of energy, I sleep really well, I can run, I can wear nearly all the clothes I want (I say nearly all, because I am never going to be 6ft tall) and I am not afraid to try new things – like rock climbing, canyoning, or white water rafting. What got me sold was boxing. I love it! Then you add some heavy weights and voila! Boxing is fun and it’s such a good overall workout. And maybe weights sounds a bit boring but trust me, once you start getting a bit stronger you’ll be amazed at how much easier things get. Carrying shopping, flipping the futon – I like being able to do stuff without having to ask for help. The best thing about my gym is that it doesn’t really feel like a gym at all. It’s just a place that you come to and hang out with some nice people, do a bit of hard work and feel better for it." |
